Following a request made to Council by local residents and community members, who raised concerns about road safety issues, we are considering reducing the speed limit on Ghin Ghin and Highlands Road, between Granite Hills Road and Old Saleyards Lane, Highlands.

Community members are concerned the current 100 km per hour speed limit is too high for this 2.1 km section of road, which has school bus collection points, the Highlands Public Hall and the CFA station located along it. In response to these concerns, we are proposing to reduce the speed limit to 80 km per hour. This will have a minimal impact on travel times (approximately 19 seconds).

In the last five years, there has been one fatal accident on this stretch of road. Before this, there has been one fatal accident and two further accidents causing injury.

The review process involves consultation with the community, Regional Roads Victoria and Victoria Police. Council will consider community feedback before any recommendation is made on the speed limit change and will provide an update to the community once the consultation period has closed.

If you have a view about the proposed speed zone change, we would like to hear from you.
