To plan for the changing needs of residents and to help facilitate sustainable housing development, growth and affordability, Murrindindi Shire Council has developed a draft Housing and Settlement Strategy (H&SS).

In line with the requirements of the Victorian Government’s Planning Policy Framework, the Strategy will assist Council in identifying future housing needs across Murrindindi Shire over the next 20 years, with a focus on both short-term and long-term opportunities for housing growth.

Community feedback on housing and settlement issues, gathered during the development of the Council Plan 2021-2025, was used to inform the draft H&SS. You told us how much you valued our Shire’s beautiful natural environment and rural landscapes and that it should be balanced with sustainable growth. We are now encouraging the community to get involved and provide their feedback on this important strategic document.

The draft H&SS seeks to provide a logical framework that will guide planning and decision-making and assist in meeting future housing needs across Murrindindi Shire to 2041 and beyond. It provides clear strategic direction as to where housing growth is best located.

As part of the development of the draft H&SS a detailed Background and Issues Report was prepared and forms the evidence base by which the strategy was created. The strategy will sit alongside the Murrindindi Planning Scheme once adopted by Council.
