Tell us a little about where you volunteer?

I volunteer my time to do three (7 hour) days in the haberdashery and craft shop. I do get a pie on Thursday! I stock and keep the shop organised.

We have a trolley with goods for sale to fundraise for Royal Children's Hospital and have raised over $3,000. I appreciate craft and love the energy of the people who come in.

How did you get into volunteering?

I have always enjoyed volunteering. I could see the benefit and need to fundraise and make money to maintain older buildings, like Fawcett Hall. I live on a farm and it can be isolating. I started coming into the shop and after getting to know Jan and see all the good will she and her team offered the community I wanted to get involved.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

Volunteering has introduced me to lots of people and my social group has expanded. We work hard but also have a fun and supportive time. Jan is the BEST boss and helps everyone (sometimes for free or donation). I find it very motivating and inspiring to be part of and I am happy to give her a hand.

Is there anything you find challenging about volunteering?

Not so much, if its a particular busy time on the farm then it can be a juggle.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?

If there is a club or group that interests you, go meet the. Sit with them, have some chats, observe and see what grows.
