The Marysville BookNest is a community-run second-hand bookshop which supports reading and writing in the local community and beyond. The BookNest is located amongst the beautiful trees and Burrangeen park just behind MiRA in the replica of the Old Police Office.

What opportunities are there?

  • Volunteer at the Bookshop which is currently only opened on weekends - 11.00am- 3.00pm. This is currently our priority - and it is fun! For a small bookshop we have an extraordinary collection of quality books in all genres fand for all interests - all donated.
  • Participate in the BookNest's regular meetings to make decisions about all matters and initiatives organised by the BookNest. For example, in 2023, the BookNest is hosting its second Writing Competition, for people of all ages across the Shire of Murrindindi.
  • Support new ideas and initiatives that encourage reading and writing.

What benefits do volunteers bring to your group and organisation?

The Marysville BookNest is a completely volunteer-run group and effort - without the effort by volunteers, the BookNest and all that we have done over the past five years, would not exist; and without the wonderful ongoing support of other community run organisations in Murrindindi we would not have begun nor be able to continue.

We are auspiced by the Triangle Arts Group (TAG) and have been supported by many others, including the Marysville Historical Society, Marysville Men's Shed, Marysville Lion's Club and the Alexandra Bookshop.

Over the past five years we have:

  • Supported our local primary schools in Buxton and Marysville and many local community events, including prizes at the Art Show
  • Organised community writing workshops and local writers’ events
  • Supported the Indigenous Literacy Foundation
  • Created an Art Books’ Collection at MiRA for all to enjoy
  • Organised the first BookNest Writing Competition with a wonderful Awards night – and another Competition for this year!
