Tell us a little about where you volunteer?

I am the Secretary of The Dame Pattie Menzies Centre Inc. Committee of Management.
The Dame Pattie Menzies Centre Inc. is a Not for Profit organisation that provides disability and aged care services in the Murrindindi Shire and also Mansfield.

How did you get into volunteering?

I have always volunteered. I was raised to support the community wherever I lived, as it is no use complaining what you don't have unless you are prepared to be part of the solution. So my volunteering journey began as a teenager at Sherbrooke Little Athletics Club. As a parent I was President and Vice President of the Committee of Management of Tecoma Kindergarten and for five years worked with a great team to relocate and build a new kindergarten. When we moved to Alexandra, I was a COM President for a year. Then I became Secretary of the Alexandra Timber Tramway for ten or so years. I joined the DPMC COM in the 1990's as well.
Volunteering on a Committee of Management is a satisfying and challenging activity that effects change for the better.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

Is there anything you find challenging about volunteering?

Sometimes I have time constraints and sometimes disability and health constraints so they are my challenges.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?

That if you are passionate about something, anything - it does not matter what, being a volunteer on a Committee of Management is the most rewarding experience you can have.
