Tell us a little about where you volunteer?

Rotary Club of Alexandra, Meals on Wheels, Alexandra and District Open Gardens.

How did you get into volunteering?

Both my parents were active in their communities. Following their example, when we first moved to Alexandra over 30 years ago with 3 small children, becoming involved in service clubs (Apex) and school and kindergarten committees was a quick way to make friendships and do something useful. Over the decades this connection has evolved to participation in Rotary, U3A, Landcare and Open Gardens involvement

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

Making new friends, learning new skills, helping others who have not enjoyed the same advantages we have. Being involved in tree planting, clean up days, all help to enhance the appearance of our community.

Is there anything you find challenging about volunteering?

Not really, work load varies over time, but the results are rewarding.

What would you tell someone who is thinking about volunteering?

Give it a go! The more you put in, the more you get out of volunteering. Make new friends. Make a meaningful contribution to your community. We all have responsibilities to work and family, but it is great to be involved in activities which have meaning for you.
