Community Planning puts communities in the driver’s seat.

With a bit of help from Council, you’ll identify your local strengths, priorities for your future and collaborate to develop and deliver solutions for your town.

Community Planning also helps create a shared vision for your neighbourhood. It’s about getting to know people, working together in new ways and involves meeting up, talking, thinking about what is great in your town and sharing ideas for making it an even better place to be.

Then, as a community, you decide which ideas are most important and develop your very own Community Plan. A Community Plan is created by the community, for the community and it is up to you to bring the Plan to life. Check out our video on this page to learn more.

You can also check out the community plans created in Glenburn, Thornton-Rubicon, Eildon, Marysville, Yea and Toolangi-Castella to see how it works.

Background to Murrindindi Shire's Community Planning

Council’s Community Planning Framework was developed by community working groups in 2018 with generous support from IAG and their local brand WFI Insurance. During 2019 and 2020, we trialled the Framework in the townships of Yea, Marysville and Toolangi-Castella, again with support from IAG.

The project was very successful, with community members meeting regularly to discuss ideas and opportunities for the future of their town. These ideas were then collated and later prioritised at community dinners to help shape the vision and key goals for each town's Community Plan.

From there, a Community Plan was developed for each town, based on input and ideas from local community members, aiming to make each township a better place to live, work and play. The plans were created by the community and they are owned and driven by the community as well. The Plans were acknowledged by Council at its Meeting on 27 May 2020.

Other communities have since been through this process:

  • Eildon Community Plan, acknowledged by Council at its meeting on 24 August 2022
  • Glenburn Community Plan, acknowledged by Council at its meeting on 23 August 2023
  • Thornton-Rubicon Community Plan, noted by Council at its meeting on 26 October 2023

If you're from any of these towns, get in touch now to find out how you can be involved in the implementation of their Community Plan.
